Cranberries! That fall and winter fruit that is a holiday staple for many families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. The bright red berry packs a puckering pack of antioxidants, vitamins, and nutrients. The tart berries are considered a “superfood” for good reason. Vitamins C, A, K, and E, potassium, calcium, and B-complex to name a few.
Most of us have probably had some form of cranberry dessert or side dish that we remember from our childhood and may still make for our families to carry on tradition. It may even be the canned, jellied cranberry surprise.
So, let’s take a bag of holiday nostalgia and create a memorable dip for your guests, friends, or your own family that will (hopefully) cause them to ask for your recipe!
Aren’t these picks just adorable? “Twig Leaf” olive picks by Inox Artisans are decorative, practical, and certainly a conversation starter. Use them for firm fruits, olives, and cheeses, and whatever you choose to serve up some fun appetizers.
Holiday Cranberry Dip
Transform tart, fresh cranberries into a holiday fruit dip.
Equipment
- food processor
Ingredients
- 6 ounces fresh cranberries, rinsed
- 3 - 4 tablespoons granulated sugar, or to taste
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 4 ounces plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 - 3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar, or to taste
- Strawberries, for dipping
- Blueberries, for dipping
- Grapes, for dipping
- Bananas, for dipping
Instructions
- Pulse the cranberries in a food processor until roughly chopped, but not to puréed.
- Scrape the cranberries into a bowl and add sugar to taste. Stir well. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour, or overnight.
- Mix the cream cheese, yogurt, vanilla, and zest, in a medium bowl. A hand-held mixer works well, but you could use a whisk and some elbow grease.
- Add the cranberries and any juices; stir well. Taste for sweetness, adding confectioners’ sugar if desired. I added 2 tablespoons.
- Chill if desired, or serve immediately with your favorite fruits.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
Notes
The chopped cranberries can be prepared up to 2 days in advance.
This recipe can be easily doubled.
