Pulled Pork Barbecue Homemade Sauce
I know there are some foods that are such favorites you won’t even attempt a homemade version, but then there are some foods that only homemade will do.

My Homemade Barbecue Sauce is ridiculously easy. Simply measure your ingredients, stir and simmer. Serve. It cannot be easier. And it tastes way beyond better than any sauce I’ve tasted from a store.

Add this sauce to your favorite bbq recipe, or use my slow cooker version of Pulled Pork Barbecue. There is a homemade rub included in the recipe, too!

The sauce can be used in place of wherever you have used a bottle in the past…Pork BBQ, hamburgers, chicken, loaded BBQ nachos, french fries, etc.

Slow cooker pulled pork with a homemade sauce is perfect on it's own or as a sandwich with homemade slaw.
The apple cider vinegar listed in the ingredients is your basic ACV. It is not the more expensive vinegar “with Mother.”

If you use “no salt added” tomato sauce, you will need to add salt to your sauce. I use Hunt’s brand tomato sauce and Heinz brand ketchup.

The sauce will keep for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container in your refrigerator, or frozen for up to 6 months.

Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, light or dark brown
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, hot or mild
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 3 tablespoons molasses (not sorghum)
  • 2 teaspoons golden mustard, not yellow mustard, I like Gulden's brand
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke, optional

Instructions

  • Place all the ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat.
  • Stirring often, simmer the sauce for at least 30 minutes to allow the sugar to melt and the flavors to marry.
  • Serve warm with barbecue, burgers, etc.

Notes

The sauce can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. It can be frozen up to 6 months in the freezer, in a freezer-safe, airtight container.
