DIY Taco Seasoning (Salt-free)
Try to purchase fresh spices to create a longer shelf life for your seasoning blend. There are specialty spice stores (such as The Spice and Tea Exchange) that sell very good quality, fresh spices that would be ideal for this Taco Seasoning. Yes, they’re a little pricier sometimes, but the freshness and quality beats your typical grocery store spice aisle.
If you’re used to picking up a packet of taco seasoning from the store for convenience, try this homemade version and you just may never go back! A 1-ounce taco seasoning pouch is generally 2 tablespoons. Just measure out from your container and go from there. Maybe you’d like to add more? Go ahead. You don’t have to waste a store-bought packet if you want to adjust your desired amount of seasoning.
If you do like the thickening agents that come in the prepackaged/store-bought packets, you can add a small amount of cornstarch.
I strongly suggest a glass container to store your seasoning because plastics are porous and will absorb the aromas, making it difficult to remove should you not reuse that container again for another batch of Taco Seasoning.
Dividing up a large batch of this Taco Seasoning into smaller, pretty jars makes great gifts!
This recipe easily doubles.
Enjoy!
