Tzatziki Sauce

Prep Time: 8 minutes | Cook Time: 10 minutes | Total Time: 18 minutes | Serves: 8

If you love Greek food, you probably love the Tzatziki Sauce that is commonly served alongside gyros, Greek fries, etc. Some recipes for the sauce use sour cream and/or mayonnaise. Other recipes use Greek yogurt, which is how I make my homemade Tzatziki Sauce. The flavors of cucumbers and fresh dill make this sauce crazy-good! The pop of red wine vinegar and lemon juice brings the flavors together that’s a must-try with my Greek Chicken Gyros.

Equipment

  • Colander
  • Grater

Ingredients

  • 2 cucumbers, mostly peeled and seeds removed discarded
  • 1 1/2 cups plain Greek yogurt
  • 2-3 tablespoons lemon juice, to taste
  • 1/2 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, see Notes
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 teaspoons fresh dill, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, peeled, smashed, and minced, or grated on a microplane
  • 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar

Instructions

  • Grate the cucumbers into a colander and set over a medium bowl. Allow the moisture from the cucumbers to drain off.
  • Squeeze the cucumbers in layers of paper towels or clean dish towels to remove excess moisture.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and stir well to combine.
  • Let the Tzatziki Sauce sit at room temperature for 10 minutes for the flavors to meld together.
  • Stir again and taste for seasoning. Adjust to your preference.

Notes

I love the oils from Abingdon Olive Oil Company. I use my Lemon-infused oil from this company, but any excellent-quality oil will work.
